Post Abortion Stress Exists!!

Every woman or couple has the right to choose the best way to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. However, while for some people abortion is the right choice, there are many who suffer terribly following an abortion. What to do about an unplanned pregnancy is a decision that needs to be made quickly, there’s usually lots of circumstances, lots of pressure and many end up making a decision they later regret. The effects of an abortion that is regretted, are debilitating, sometimes even causing the sufferer to take their own life. This regret, named Post Abortion Stress Syndrome is all too common but unfortunately, it’s not even medically recognised. Signs of Post Abortion Stress are: Bouts of uncontrollable crying An urge to replace the baby they have lost Flashbacks of the experience Sleep problems Eating disorders Substance abuse Psychosexual disorders Being overly protective or distant with future children Relationship problems Anniversary syndrome (when the abortion took place or when the baby would have been born) As long as Post Abortion Stress isn’t medically recognised, women and couples who book abortions will be misinformed that they will be alright and that there are no psychological effects. The fact that it isn’t recognised is also preventing any kind of assessment for factors which could lead to Post Abortion Stress. For example, while a woman or a couple may feel a bond with the fetus, they may feel abortion is their only choice due to money problems. This petition is for any woman who has suffered from Post Abortion Stress and would like it to be medically recognised so that the necessary systems can be put in place to prevent other women suffering from it.
