The government is currently changing the pay, pensions and working conditions for Teachers, NHS, Police and other public sector workers. In light of some of the changes they are proposing and will push through regardless, I feel it is only fair that politicians lead by example, after all they are paid by public.
I feel there should be a cap on the wages of a politician to a salary of £50,000. They should work on bank holidays at no extra cost (as salary paid, not hourly) Politicians should receive 21 days a year holiday, but if they do not want to work on public holidays, they should use some of their allocated holiday days.
To get a full pension, as the government are upping the reitirement age and changing peoples pensions, they must serve 40 years, and pay 15% of their pension contributions. The pension will be linked to to CPI, not RPI.
As politicians knew that the role would involve travelling to Westminster, there will be no second home allowance and no travel expenses or meal expenses, as £50,000 is more than enough to live on.
To prevent politicians from awarding contracts to the public sector and then a few years later joining the same company and getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds, they will not be allowed to work for a company that their government has awarded a contract to for a period of 10 years.
Politicians must not hold a second job, or employ familly members due to conflict of interest.
Hopefully the changes will save the public millions of pounds, which can be put into public services and will make politics more transparent.
