Myspace is one of the leading and fastest growing social networking website in the world today. Their popularity makes them a target for hundreds of advertisers, vying for ad space on the companies pages, known as "Banners".
Todays Digital age allows for a slue of embedded content, such as video and audio clips to automatically play once the viewer accesses the target site. Although certain laws prohibit Adult content from being shown without an "Entry Agreement", 'near nudity' is still allowed and openly permitted.
Dating services often buy content space on the Myspace.com that automatically play flash videos of near nude women chatting, dancing, and flirting, in hopes that it will drive customers to their site. Because there is no option to turn the video off, it continuously plays in a loop until the pages is changed refreshed or closed.
This petition is directed to Myspace.com owner "The News Corporation" to take responsibility for the content its partners place on the site, and for the self censorship of Myspace.com in it's choice of advertisements that are placed therein. Many times this material is offensive,therefore we {The Undersigned} respectively ask that the adult directed advertisements are removed in order to make a more wholesome environment for the many users of Myspace.com who include children, young adults, and religious persons. This is not an attack on the freedom of speech rights that the internet is based upon, but rather an ethical consideration towards what is considered lewd and sexual content.
We once again ask that Myspace.com owner The News Corporation, respect the opinion of it's users in making their website a more family friendly venture with all advertising content carefully screened.
