To protect the last remaining stretch of natural parkland in the citys beautiful river valley, we, the undersigned, urge you to prevent any and all
paving in Terwillegar Park, including the paved trail that has already been approved for construction in 2004-5. Terwillegar Park currently:
is used by 200,000 people every year (city figures, 2001), in all seasons and throughout the week
is the largest and safest off-leash dog park in the city, which would be lost by adding paved (on-leash) trails
has the best off-road bicycle trails in the area, some of which are scheduled for immediate paving
is enjoyed by families, canoeists, environmentalists, hikers, cross-country skiers, and others in addition to cyclists and dog-walkers
requires minimal expense for upkeep compared to more developed parks
promotes stress relief and better health in a quiet, natural environment that feels removed from the noise and activity of the city.
The needs of those who treasure this unique city resource must be protected equally as the needs of those who prefer paved trails, which already exist at many other sites in the river valley. Thank you for your assistance in preserving this irreplaceable multi-use landscape.
