Dear Legislator,
I am writing to ask you to vote for Scruffy's Law (SB135 & HB2424). As your constituent, and as a citizen concerned about animal cruelty in my community and in communities across Kansas , I believe it is time we stand up to truly protect all animals.
This bill will make cruelty to animals a felony thereby creating a harsher penalty for offenders. As we have seen in far too many recent news stories, the current city code that makes animal cruelty a misdemeanor punishment is NOT effectively deterring these horrifying acts. This must stop now!
Animals are unable to protect themselves from such cruel acts, therefore we must do what WE can to protect them. Cruelty to animals is inexcusable and the punishment for such acts in Kansas is just unacceptable, but your vote could change that. I'm counting on you to support Scruffy's Law (SB135 & HB2424) in support of changing the animal cruelty punishment in Kansas .

PLEASE carefully consider. Animals cannot protect themselves, they look to us for protection. If these abusers are allowed to continue with such a lax penalty how will this be deterred.

There are laws protecting people from being attacked by animals, but no laws protecting animals against attack by people. There are a lot more reports of animals being attacked by people than people being attacked by animals. Kansas needs a law protecting
