Stop development of rare Lake Simcoe Shoreline

To: The Ontario Municipal Board

Whereas the Lake Simcoe watershed and Lake Simcoe itself are of significant economic importance to the region and to the Province of Ontario

Whereas the health of Lake Simcoe is extremely important in the provision of a safe and reliable water source for residents and visitors to the region

Whereas the health of Lake Simcoe is in serious jeopardy primarily due to pollution from extensive human activity, specifically rapid urban and semi-urban development

Whereas a study has been commissioned by the Province of Ontario to determine the carrying capacity of the Lake Simcoe watershed through an assimilative study

Whereas the Oro-Medonte Township has granted permission for the Moon Point Development Corporation to build a 14 estate lot sub-division on this shoreline despite the current status of the lake, demonstrating a seeming lack of effective long term decision-making

Whereas many local, regional and provincial government guidelines, practices and policies have been disregarded in granting permissions for this development to proceed

Whereas the Moon Point Homeowners Association has many concerns relating to the environmental and social impacts of this development.

We, therefore call upon the Ontario Municipal Board to:

- reverse the Township and Simcoe County decisions permitting this development
- return the land to its prior Rural Restricted/Environmentally Protected zoning
