We, the undersigned, come together to request that each of the governing bodies of Congress take the necessary actions to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Our request is based on the following:
We the undersigned and people of the United States believe that we lead the world in human rights. However, we are the only nation except Somalia that has failed to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. (Somalia does not have a formal government at this time and therefore can not ratify.)
We believe that a number of special interest groups are blocking the ratification because they fear the treaty may impede upon their specific cause. These groups include but are not limited to select pro-choice groups, death penalty advocates, and staunch supporters of capitalism who fear the involvement of government in what they consider to be private affairs.
We advocate against the great differences in law and procedure at the state level. These differences undermine our national causes rather than further them. We seek unity at the federal level on the issue of child rights.
We regard the liberty of all humans as a birthright. This includes all races, genders and ages. We do not believe those under 18 to be less than human, therefore deserving of lesser rights.
We understand that children are in need of special protection, and therefore are subject to certain limitations and/or censorship that may not apply to adults. We believe the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child supports this view in every way and in no way comprises it.

If you want to have more impact on the rights of children also sign the petition on this website calling for the repeal of the No Child Left Behind Act. Children are not robots and their rights are being violated daily right here in the US.
