In accordance with the Good Friday Agreement, elections were to be held in Northern Ireland, May 1, 2003. These elections were postponed by the British government until May 29, 2003. Once again, on May 29th, these elections were suspended in Northern Ireland and postponed "until autumn." The suspension of these elections violates the democratic rights of the people of Northern Ireland. To continue to postpone the elections and the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement is to hinder the democratic will of the people of Northern Ireland. In order to create a lasting peace, free of prejudice, repression, militarism, and violence, the Good Friday Agreement must be fully implemented. We the undersigned call for the immediate holding of elections in Northern Ireland and for the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.
