A Petition For The Construction Of A Specific Hockey Facility At Leeds Metropolitan University’s Headingley Campus.
A long lasting promise to many members of Leeds Metropolitan University Hockey Club has been the replacement of the current synthetic turf pitches at the university’s Headingley Campus.
At the beginning of the 2010/11 academic year, members of the club were informed that construction of a new facility was due to begin in the summer of 2011. After two years of reassurance that the pitches were to be replaced we were informed that the construction would consist of replacing the two current sand dressed pitches with one 3G-rubber crumb pitch and one water based AstroTurf.
On the 31st January 2011, the committee of both the men and women’s clubs were informed that the synthetic sports pitches had been put out to tender on the 28th January 2011 and that a contractor would arrive on site from the 20th June 2011.
On 25th March 2011, we were informed that the Head of Estates at the University had recommended that one 3G-rubber crumb and one sand dressed pitch should be constructed as the replacement.
We, the undersigned believe that this is not the progression that we had been promised and is in fact a regression on the current facilities in place and therefore are petitioning for the construction of a specific hockey facility.
Please find this petition alongside our proposal for what we, as a hockey club, believe are the requirements for the most suitable pitches for the continued progression of our club alongside all sports at Leeds Metropolitan University.
