A Petition to end Petitions

Petition's have existed since the dawn of the written word; however, in today's society they are all but obsolete. Those with power and the ability to affect change, listen only to their pocketbooks, not to the written and submitted will of the people through petition. It is with great sadness, I must seek a final petition for the human race, a petition to end petitions. I recognize the logical leaps, which must be made to sign a petition outlawing petitions; however, conservative ideology, religious extremism, and people who blindly follow others prove to all of us how useless logical thinking is anyway. If a business does something we do not like, let us stand up and hit them where it hurts, the cash register! If we want to create political change, let us not vote for the candidate with the biggest mouth, the deepest pockets, or who blows the best looking smoke rings up our butt, instead we, ourselves should stand up and run for office, putting our hard earned dollars to use making a difference.

Lastly, I leave you with this thought. We will never have world peace, so long as we live in a diverse world with the capacity for independent thought. Some people will never agree with others, nor should they. We could focus on what unites us as a species, instead of what divides us as individuals, to strive toward a common purpose, a common goal, or for personal betterment, but the truth is that is a fantasy. People will always try to subjugate other people, to gain power, wealth, influence, or because they are douchebags. It is a fact of life, it is a law of human nature. Instead of trying to change the world to accomodate our personal viewpoint, why not try changing ourselves to be more tolerant, accepting, and open to those who are different than ourselves. Perhaps with enough time and a few dozen generations of effort, humanity will be able to appreciate the petition again, and the petition will be able to make a difference once more.
