PETITION TO URGE BRITNEY SPEARS TO DRESS IN ANY MANNER SHE PLEASES


To the lovely Britney Spears:


A lot of hoopla has been made recently about the way you dress. Many feel that the outfits you wear are too provocative, too sexy, too daring. Some say you dress inapropriately and need to "cover up". Another group has in fact, submitted a petition on this same server urging you do such.


We, the undersigned of THIS petition say otherwise, and urge you to ignore their self-serving tirade.


Granted, you've startled us from time to time with the expressiveness you've shown in your videos, numerous photo layouts, and concert appearances, including your unforgettable performance at the VMA's.


But that's besides the point.


Maybe it's your stunning beauty, your small-town girl charm, or those catchy pop tunes you sing, but for one reason or another we LIKE your image the way it is, and would hate to see you change it to appease those who incessantly rip on you with their childish insults and horrible names. We need not mention any of them specifically.


The fact is Britney, you are a woman, an adult, and a taxpaying member of a free society, and you can do whatever you damn well please with your body and your wardrobe. If you like to bare your navel, do so. If you like to show cleavage (even lots of it), feel free. Shoot, if you ever wish to pose nude for Playboy (although you've stated publically that you never would), we will not hold it against you.


Many feel the "immodest" way you dress presents you as being a bad role model. We say young people should look up to those around them (namely their parents) as role models, not someone they see on television. Besides, why should society point its finger at you when there are far worse things in the entertainment industry.


You do not drive drunk, produce illegitimate children, or have songs that promote drugs and violence. Truthfully, you are not any more obilged than the rest of us to be a good person, and we know you are indeed good. Strutting around in a tube top does not change that. Your true fans know that you do not always dress in the manner we often see you in.


Believe us Britney, if you give into their demands of your critics, they will not like you. They will not buy your CD's, request your videos, or go to your concerts. They do not like you, never have liked you, and never will. They are in a word, jealous. Jealous of your beauty, jealous of your success, jealous of the attention you get from men. Ignore their selfish arguments and dress in any manner you please, for it is ridiculous to lambaste you for being "too sexy" when other female celebrities are doing the EXACT same thing, sans all the whining from such hypocrites.


By dressing the way YOU (not these poobahs) see fit, you'll be telling your detractors to SHOVE IT and to GROW UP. The world has far worse problems to worry about than the scantily outfits worn by a pop singer, or anyone for that matter.
