A Safer Route 29 Petition
To: Maryland State Highway Administration, Howard County Government & Officials, Maryland State Representatives
Sponsors: Members of Daniels Mill Overlook Homeowners Association, Mount Hebron High School PTSA
Given the recent fatality of Andrew Noel, other accidents and incidents that have occurred and the numerous "near misses" we have experienced or witnessed since its opening, we believe that the configuration and actual utilization of the crossover intersection of Rt 29 and I-70 providing additional access to I-70 west is unsafe and that this intersection should be permanently closed.
We, the undersigned:
Agree with and support a thorough and open investigation of the intersection that encompasses not only engineering criteria but actual use patterns and driving behaviors of those who use the crossover;
We request an active dialogue between SHA, the community, the Howard County Government and our elected officials to reach a safe and supported solution; and,
We respectfully request that this intersection be closed during an interim period while the aforementioned investigation and dialogue take place.

Dangerous for both N & S bound 29 traffic. Cars dart across 29 southbound to get onto 70 and slamming brakes northbound to decide which ramp they are taking.

I try to avoid 29 at the 70 point as I have had many close calls in the past. Drivers making the turn are very aggressive.

While we are waiting for this change that will save lives in our community we need three things. I install a traffic camera at the intersection of Hwy 29 and Hwy 99. Ticket all who go through that red light. In particular those turning RIGHT on Hwy 99 off

The exit ramp is way too dangerous. Cars are constantly waiting until the last minute to crossover. I would never want my children driving on Rt 29 with that still in place. Please listen to the people of the community!

We also have had numerous close calls with this crossover, both during am and pm traffic. I completely support the efforts to shut down this highly dangerous crossover. As stated before, all this has done is serve to cause complete congestion on NB70 inst
