AAUP Guidelines and the University of South Florida

We, the undersigned, feel deep concern about the University of South Florida's ignoring of AAUP guidelines in actions concerning Dr. James Inman.

Dr. Inman has reported publicly that USF did not include regular faculty in discussions about his contract renewal and did not give him an opportunity to submit information relevant to that decision. Later, when Dr. Inman requested reconsideration, USF denied him that opportunity. Last, the university has not provided Dr. Inman with any written explanation of the nonrenewal decision, despite his asking multiple times. All of these USF actions are contrary to the AAUP Statement on Procedural Standards in the Renewal or Nonrenewal of Faculty Appointments (http://www.aaup.org/statements/Redbook/Rbrenew.htm).

We, the undersigned, request that AAUP guidelines be honored and thus that the university immediately convene a faculty group to reconsider Dr. Inman's contract nonrenewal decision. We do not advocate for any particular decision, only that appropriate reconsideration be granted.
