Against Lebanon signing the Hague Convention

Against Lebanon signing the Hague Convention as long as Lebanese Mothers cannot give Citizenship to their children!

Recently it has been circulating in the news that the Hague Convention is to be signed by Lebanon.

The whole idea was launched after a fight in a bi-national marriage, the man Lebanese, the woman Brazilian, the child born and raised in Brazil. The husband fought with his wife after hurting her, consequently the wife ran away with her child. Since then the husband is trying to oblige the wife to come back, and trying to take the baby away from her, he abused public sympathy by launching a petition asking Lebanon to sign the Hague Convention.

In their naivety Lebanese supported him and signed the petition without understanding the consequences for other Lebanese.

The Hague Convention would be applied when one of the parents gets custody and asks for the return of the child by force. All cases of bi-nationals have proven to have failed according to the Hague Convention.

Moreover the Hague Convention in case signed by Lebanon would only benefit Lebanese fathers but not Lebanese mothers. Lebanese mothers still do not have the right to give their children the Lebanese citizenship and hence receive custody for their children.

Signing the Hague Convention means that Lebanese mothers are discriminated against again and again. And this is a VIOLATION AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS!

Please sign this petition in order to present it to the Lebanese Parliament and urge them NOT to sign the Hague at least as long as Lebanese Mothers cannot give the Citizenship to their children.
