Alex Rodriguez Moustache Miracle

Since becoming a member of the most recognized sports franchise in the world, the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez has been under the microscope of the New York media and Yankees fans. Arriving with a $252 million dollar contract and quite possibly the greatest expectations held for any professional athlete in the history of sports, Alex has tried to live up to these expectations.

Yet, now nearing the end of the 2006 season, it appears that the burden may be too great. While Alex's numbers are the type any Major League Baseball player would kill for, they are only that, numbers. Using Derek Jeter as an example, New York does not care about numbers, they care about winning.

This season Alex has been plagued by errors (the most of any third basemen), along with an unquestionable lack of ability to perform in the clutch. It has become clear that Alex is willing to try anything to break his slump, and that he cares deeply about turning things around. Which is part of the problem. There is only one solution: Alex Rodriguez must grow a moustache.

Going to the the now infamous Boston Massacre of 2006, there were the usual speculations and questions about the rivalry. Yet, one thing was clear, and it was that Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi were growing moustaches. Their performance was indication enough that men with moustaches get things done, and do not care what others think of their appearance while they take care of business.

It is this reason that Alex Rodriguez must grow a moustache for the sake of his career and, more importantly, the team. A moustache would allow Alex to dispel the notion that he takes himself too seriously. It would demonstrate to the fans, media, and his teammates that he is willing to sacrifice his clean-cut image to win. A moustache can liberate a man, free him from the prison cell of his mind. We, the fans of the New York Yankees, are asking Alex Rodriguez to break out.
