In this time of increasing fuel cost it makes sense to encourage motorcyclists to ride their machines more often. To add the incentive, Georgia should repeal the part of the traffic law (40-6-312) prohibiting the practice of "lane splitting" or "whitelining", which namely states:
(b) The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken. (c) No person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles.
Despite the common belief that lane splitting is dangerous, the Hurt Report, published in 1981, and basing its conclusions on accident data gathered in the 1970's, confirms that "lane splitting reduces rear end crashes and improves motorcycle safety."

Please do allow this. Some of us get bikes to be more maneuverable and we are forced to stay stuck in gridlock.

Sitting at a red light in the last position is dangerous for cyclist. We are often exposed to the prospect of being rear ended by inattentive motorist. This results in being pinned in between the two vehicles.

this would definitely help the current traffic situation by allowing filtering of traffic by more fuel efficient vehicles, encouraging more people to ride motorcycles and raise awareness of motorcycles

whats the worst that can happen? Try it and if it doesn't work then change the law back but by doing nothing we are allowing politicians continue to not listen to their constituants.
