We, the undersigned, support allowing BMX Bicycles in the
Clearlake Skate Park, In Clearlake Calif. .
It is a common misconception that BMX bicycles in skate parks create a dangerous environment and cause most of the ramp damage. But there is no proven evidence that BMX bicycles cause more damage than skateboards and inline skates. BMX bicycles are also equipped with brakes and are highly maneuverable, making them, in many ways, safer than the skateboards and inline skates that are permitted in most skateparks. Many cities around the country already recognize this by permitting BMX bicycles into publicly funded skateparks, where they co-exist with other skatepark users. Countless private skateparks already demonstrate that any and all skatepark designs are compatible with BMX bicycles.
Without public facilities, kids who ride BMX bikes are on their own to find or build places to ride. Because the places where they ride are often illegal, BMX riders are subject to ticketing by police. Many young riders have a police record simply for riding their bicycles! We believe that this encourages an unnecessary "us against them" mentality toward law enforcement and can help keep kids safe and off the streets!
For all of the reasons above and more, we, the undersigned, recommend they allow BMX bicycles at the Clearlake Skate Park and allow BMX bicycles to have a place that is accessible and safe, where BMX bicyclists may enjoy their sport.

The skate park has more meaning than just to the skaters. The bikers would have nothing else to do, other than to make their own, potentially dangerous, and often illegal, ramps. So descriminating against bikers would lead to even more juvenile arrests or

bmx riders need a place to ride just as much as skaters need a place to skate. Its unfair segregation to bann us from utilizing a facility fully capable for all of us to use and share.
