As you are no doubt aware, voting problems in America have become commonplace.
We, the undersigned, know that NOW is the time to upgrade the American voting system. Voting problems in 2000 and 2004 have raised a red flag in our country and throughout the world, forcing people to speculate whether every vote really counts.
Regardless of who wins any given election, the American voters must be assured that their vote is properly cast and counted. However, antiquated voting machines and archaic voting rules are keeping the American voters from having their voices heard.
Reforms on the American voting system are imperative and must begin to be put into place now, before the 2008 National Election. Confidence in America's voting system is vital. The alternative is continued problems in future elections that may eventually lead to extremely low voter turn out.
We suggest the following:
1. One style of voting machine will be used all across America.
2. Every voter shall be required to show valid I.D. prior to voting.
3. Requests for Absentee Ballots are due no later than September 1 of each election year.
4. Absentee Ballots must be post marked no later than fourteen days prior to the election.
5. Absentee Ballots must be tabulated and ready to be part of the vote count on Election Night.
6. Every four years when it comes time for Americans to renew their drivers licenses they shall also renew their voter registration.
7. Provisional Balloting must be computerized and ready to be counted within four days of the election.
8. Every voter will receive a paper receipt immediately after voting.
9. Every state shall have the same deadline to register to vote. We suggest that this date be September 1 of each election year.
We feel strongly that Americans deserve election rules that no longer divide our country and allow for one mistake after another. America must enact a voting system that is reliable and valid.
We ask that you begin to take BI-partisan action immediately. Your American constituents deserve no less.
