Prime Minister of India

India
Honorable Prime Minister,
We the undersigned NRIs would like to bring to your attention that the decision of your cabinet to provide a reservation of 27\% of seats in the institutions of higher learning is unfair and not in the best interest of India in a long run, for the following reasons:
1. It divides citizens of India and the Hindu community on the caste line for ever. For the unity among the people of India it is the duty of your Government that it should remove the caste system for good officially, and stop the use of the phrases like вscheduled casteв, вbackward casteв, вdalitsв, вother backward casteв, etc. so that the coming generations of Indian citizens should not suffer from the inferiority complex of being of the вlower casteв. The introduction of the new label, вother backward casteв expands the caste system among Christians and Muslims thus expanding the evils of the caste system.
2. Its impact will be similar to what Lord Thomas Macaulayвs and Max Mullerвs hypothesis of вAryan Invasionв had in Indians. Just to create the вdivide and ruleв policy for the British government, they divided Indians on racial basis as вAryansв and вDravidiansв, which had never been heard of before that. As a result the members of DMK think that only Dravidians are native Indians and all others came from out side India as invaders. This is in spite of the fact that the excavations along the dried Saraswati river have shown that Vedic civilization is more than 5,000 years old.
3. Scientists and sociologists have proved that intelligence is equally distributed among the population of the world, irrespective of caste, color and creed. Giving reserved seats to a certain section of society is depriving others of equal rights, which the Indian Constitution promises.
4. If creating вvote-bankв is not the real purpose and if well being of India is the top priority of your party and your government, you should not adopt this reservation policy. This policy will divide Indians for ever, the consequences of which will be victimization of the coming generations who would have been labeled вinferiorв due to the reservation policy. Also history will judge you as to whether your actions were in the best interest of India or were for a short term gain of your party.
5. There are crores of so-called lower caste people in the villages of India for whom the Indian government has failed to provide even basic education. Reserving seats for a few OBCs, even if they are not qualified, just to gain political advantage, will reduce the prestige of these institutions, which they have earned abroad. In the long term the damage to the prestige of the higher education institutions will not only adversely affect the employment opportunity of their graduates, it may also hurt the foreign investments in India when the foreign corporations and investors perceive that the graduates are not as qualified as they were before the quota system was introduced. At the same time it will frustrate many young talented Indians. It will be a waste of the countryвs talents and will not be fair at all to India and her people. Also this will eventually cause brain drain at the cost of India and to the benefit of other countries, if people are not treated fairly and equally in India.
Therefore, we earnestly urge you not to damage the unity of Indians by making one section of the citizens more privileged than others for a short-term political gain.
