Minister of Justice and Attorney General- Honorable Andrew Swan
Honorable Minister of Justice,
We the Canadians signing this petition are asking that you appeal the decision and sentence of Graham James. The sentence seems unreasonably unjust considering the horrendous repeated serial crimes committed against at least four boys.
The findings of the judge to consider the shame and public humility of the defendant as grounds to be considered in sentencing sets a very dangerous precedent. Public are never supportive of any criminal who commits a horrendous crime. If this reasoning is allowed then can we conclude that every horrendous crime should receive a lighter sentence because of public shun and shame of the perpetrator?
Other questionable defense arguments that were perhaps not factual should not have been allowed.
Therefore we request that the Manitoba government and crown prosecutors appeal this decision within the 30 day period.
