Apple's pricing policy in Europe

We, the undersigners, fellow customers of your company outside the USA, want to express our concerns about Apple's pricing policy in Europe. According to the actual values of the US currency and the UE currency (1 US$ = 1.01 euro). In a pre-taxation comparison of prices it is evident that there are, at least, US$500 of difference between USA and European prices.
We would be very grateful if you could provide us with an explanation on such difference. For most of us, that difference is a serious drawback when considering a hardware upgrade. But, most important for Apple's market share, is that it prevents European WinTel users to migrate to Apple.
We strongly feel that eliminating such a difference would very much help to consolidate the position of Apple in Europe and, therefore, we would be ready to support any action Apple could take in that direction.
