*****************************************************
Who & what?
The applicant for asylum was a Tanzanian and a member of the Zanzibar nationalist opposition party. As a result of his political deeds he was arrested in 1994 in Zanzibar by Tanzanian state agents and supposedly tortured in detention. That is why he claimed asylum in 1995 in the United Kingdom, but the application was refused. The applicant claimed that the rejection of his documents and thus his claim for asylum would breach his right to be protected against inhuman treatment under certain articles of human rights documents.
