Award Dave Murphy The Order Of Canada

In January of 2007 Dave Murphy Created on simple Face Book group called "Tim Hortons for our troops" A group dedicated to sending Tim Horton's coffee to Canadian and UN Troops stationed in Afghanistan. This Group Quickly began to gain members fast and people became interested. T4T (Timmies for troops) began to get media coverage on CTV, CITY TV , VOCM Newfoundland and so on. The paper certificates quickly began the trip to our soldiers in Afghanistan. To date, Dave's site has directly sent over $30,000 in coffee.

No Donations or payment have ever been received to Dave from this as people send the certificates directly, he refused to have them come to him or allow people to donate.

Dave then started some other groups such as:
Operation Pen Pal - A site for matching civilians and soldiers
Send a message to a soldier
A Networking site for family members to meet each other

He then Decided to petition to Canada Post to issue a Stamp honoring the dedication and sacrifice of our Canadian Forces. After a petition like this one, 7000+ signatures on it, a letter writing campaign to the stamp committee, The stamp is being released by Canada Post in 2009.

Dave's Biggest accomplishment to date has been that Thank A Soldier Cause on Face Book. Most causes are for raising money but Dave's is simply a Gratitude campaign. This cause does not allow donations and in currently 113 days it has 1,777,274 MEMBERS and quickly approaching TWO MILLION. Dave with the help of a coworker designed www.thankasoldier.net to go along with the cause.

Dave has also introduced many mothers, fathers, wives, brothers and sisters of our Fallen soldiers to each other. This has helped them in so many ways as it has helped them grieve their loved ones. I have never in my life met anyone like Dave Murphy, he puts others before himself every day of his life and expects NOTHING in return.

Dave recently was nominated the Bank Of Montreal Community hero of the game at the Calgary Flames Vs Detroit Red Wings and got some star treatment for a night which is very well deserved. There is a group on facebook to nominate Dave for the CNN Every day heroes TV show also. When I told Dave I was writing this he laughed at me and refused to join that group. He also told me that with almost 2,000,000 members he has been offered large sums of money for advertising on thankasoldier.net but has turned down every single one.
