We the undersigned are concerned individuals who demand the change of the name of the network that used to represent Black Entertainment Television, BET. Its fairly recent acquisition by Viacom has all but eliminated the ethnic and culturally appealing programs. We assert that their assumption that "music shows" are the only type of shows required to stimulate our interests is completely false.
Quality cultural BET programs have been cancelled since the acquisition: Teen Summit, BET Nightly News, BET Tonight (Tavis Smiley's "departure" was a travesty ) and replaced with redundant video shows. Times change, and dollars drive things more than quality these days. So, all that we are requesting is that Viacom change one more thing about their new pet BET... the name--it no longer encompasses "Black Entertainment". Thank you for your consideration and support.
