Boycott of Corporate Underwriters of Bush and the Republican Party

The 25 largest corporate campaign contributors with consumer brands have contributed more than $65.25 million to the Republican Party between 1999 and 2003. In addition, these corporations contributed the bulk of the $200 million raised by President Bush to retain the office that he did not win in the 2000 election.

In return for the financial advantage they provide to the Republican Party, these corporations seek and receive favorable regulatory rulings, tax breaks and other public policies from Bush and the Republican majority in the U.S. Congress that are favorable to their owners, managers and shareholders. These benefits are given to the private interests at the expense of every taxpaying American, who must pay more as corporate interests are systematically relieved of their share of the tax burden.

Bush's continued hold on power -- the result of another fraudulent election -- depends on his continued support of these corporations. The Republicans have established themselves as the best vehicle for corporate privilege American politics has ever known, and this massive subsidy from business interests is one of the principle assets the Republicans have in their ruthless and brutal quest to retain power despite popular opposition.

As both citizens and prudent consumers, we want to buy back our democracy, which is worth more to us than toothpaste, beer, software, gasoline, overnight shipping, soda, drugs, automobiles or movies. Our patronage is worth more to these corporations than the influence they can purchase from the Bush Administration and the Republican Party.

Therefore, we resolve to cease purchasing products from Philip Morris, AT&T, Microsoft, UPS, MBNA, Citigroup, Pfizer, FedEx, Bristol Myers Squibb, GalaxoSmithKline, Wal-Mart, General Electric, ExxonMobil, AOL Time Warner, Anheuser Busch, ChevronTexaco, Pepsico, Shering Plough, Archer Daniels Midland, Wyeth, Alticor, American Airlines, Ford, BP Amoco, and Disney and to actively seek out alternative products until and unless these corporations renounce this corrupt payment of open bribery, withdraw their support of Bush or contribute equitably to all American political parties.
