Bring Back NC-17 Stories on FanFiction.Net

We, the undersigned, feel the September 12, 2002 banning of NC-17 rated stories by fanfiction.net is a complete outrage.

Had FanFiction.Net used a halfway decent Rules and Requirements page to begin with, they probably would not have received half of the complaints they got. Rather, they allowed fics of all types to be posted, as long as they were properly rated. FanFiction.Net did NOT take the precautions to disallow ANY type of writing, which allowed what we feel were stories that probably caused the most controversy.

Furthermore, FanFiction.Net stated that, quote: Innocent writers will be affected but this has to be done considering the non-filtering scheme of the site. We, the undersigned, feel this sudden banning of adult stories is a slap in the face to the innocent writers that properly rated our stories in order to keep them from the eyes of children. Fan fiction authors are not responsible for what children read. Rather, this is the responsibility of parents. If parents are concerned about what their children read, they should take the time to make sure their children are not reading stories that contain adult material. There is plenty of software available much of it free that can be downloaded to block children from viewing material that the parents find questionable.

We feel that FanFiction.Net is a wonderful site, despite its many problems. We have been faithful to this site despite being stripped of features that were once FREE to us, including pictures, author alerts and e-mailed reviews. We have remained at FanFiction.Net even after category after category after category became prohibited. The attitude that FanFiction.Net has taken is lackadaisical and lazy. We feel that the creators of this site did not even consider any other option other than to ban adult fiction. Is this a way to say thank you to authors that have stood by this site after site crash after ever-loving site crash, or wrongful ban after wrongful ban?

NC-17 stories are more than just mindless smut. An adult fic can run the gamut of domestic abuse to child molestation to suicide. For many of us, writing stories that are a bit graphic and detailed is the only therapy we can afford. We love the community that FanFiction.Net has provided for us (whenever its actually working.) But we feel that FanFiction.Net is turning its backs on writers of adult fiction with a mere its for the children line.

Finally, the creators of FanFiction.Net, in an effort to protect said children, have dropped some NC-17 fics to a rating of G. This is absolutely counterrevolutionary to what FanFiction.Net is claming to try to do, and the administrators should be embarrassed by this blunder, as well as their rash, ham-fisted decision to silence the voices of thousands if not millions of authors.

It is a sin and a shame that FanFiction.Net chose to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 and the spirit of democracy with communism.

Respectfully,
The Undersigned

1000. Katherine Banks | Even though I dont write or even read NC-17 stories, I still think it was a bad idea to bang it. Especially since others will loose reviewers to there stories (That are not NC-17 rating) because of that.

994. Danielle Shepherd | I never read or wrote any NC-17 stories, but i did use fanfiction.net. By taking away the right to read/write these stories, you are taking away a freedom...please reconsider, for democracy

992. Shaz Cochran | A move made for the wrong reasons, and rather cowardly at that. If we wanted the return of McCarthyism, we'd bloody well ask for it.

991. Claire C | I, too, think that some of the best stories on FF.net are NC-17. Stories rated as such should not be automatically deemed "trashy" and are not simply about sex and violence. Many contain valuable life lessons that all persons learn at some point in their
