The purpose of this petition is to demonstrate to Television Networks based in the United States, that the New Series of Doctor Who will have a significant audience in the U.S.
The new series, produced and written by Russell T. Davies (Queer as Folk)and starring Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later, The Others, Gone in 60 Seconds), premiered in the UK on March 26, 2005 to excellent ratings (43.2\% audience share). Recently, it had better ratings than the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles.
The new series has been sold to several countries outside of the UK, including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Italy.
It debuted in Canada on April 5th, where it received better ratings than House, Judging Amy, Jag, and Blue Jays Baseball.
We believe that if given the opportunity, Doctor Who could have similar success in the United States.

There's a huge fanbase in the States for this show. There are two major conventions for it here. Makes no sense to deprive American audiences of a beloved show the opportunity for new fans to come about from this new version.

Doctor Who has had a rich history with 26 seasons in its original run from 1963-1989 (how many programs can say they ran new original episodes for 26 years?). It had a huge fan following in the time it was off the screen with many books, web based stories
