California Parents Demanding Education Change "No To One Model Fits All"

California Department of Education and the California Parent Center intend to implement the Joyce Epstein Model to the County Office of Education. While touted as a pilot program, it is the same program used by the California Parent Center. California schools tried this model and have no data to prove student achievement for 10 years. We support engaging parents in public schools by choosing the training model that is best for their community and reject the use of one model fits all. We believe the freedom of choice for parent training will improve the academic achievement of all children, and especially children of color.
We need all People of Color to take a stand who are tired of being excluded from meaningful involvement in the State of the California Public School System. We are especially asking the Black and Latino communities whose children are not being educated to call State School Superintendent Jack O'Connell at 916-319-0818 and tell him NO to one model fits all for parent Involvement. FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE INPUT IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
California Schools are failing a generation of students. We do not want more of the same. California taxpayers, residents and parents of students in the public school have a right to have results that prove academic achievement. The Joyce Epstein Model did well in Baltimore but has not helped the California Schools, especially the urban schools that are mostly low performing and in program improvement. The Coalition of Urban Community requested the 10 year data from the California Department of Education and the California Parent Center, but it was not produced. Without data, California Department of Education and the California Parent Center cant justify the continued use of this model. The Joyce Epstein, NNPS experiment did not work for California Schools. NO MORE TAX PAYERS DOLLARS ON PROGRAMS THAT DONT WORK!
WE WANT PROGRAMS THAT INCREASE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT! We want the right to select the parent model that the local community will support.
Students, parents, educators, community members, faith-based initiatives, private businesses - we need your support. Parents of students would like choices - to be included in the decision-making process.
We propose the Transfigurations of Parent Involvement That Work For 21st Century" as a Best Practices model for California Urban Schools. This is an education training model that is supported by data and proven to work for the urban community. It has been adopted by the Los Angeles Unified School District. We would like to model a statewide option for schools, districts and County Offices of Education.
Please support California parent leaders throughout the state. Parent advocates are leaders in the community that are empowering parents to be advocates for their children. By engaging parents in meaningful parent involvement in our public schools we can start to closing the Achievement Gap in all of our schools. Thank you for supporting the California parents who want to help improve the academic achievement of their children through parent training.
