History shows that many female dominated health care professions have unpaid work terms (nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, dieticians, etc.). As a group of health care students we are shouting loud and clear that this needs to change. It is also a known fact that almost all engineers and business students get paid for their work terms while we struggle with student loans and lines of credit in order to survive when we are on our unpaid work placements. It is about time the government catches up with the times and gives us what we deservepaid work terms. We work just as hard and our occupations are just as valuable as any other profession who pays their students for their work terms.
