Chelsea Piers skatepark at Pier 62 is supposed to be open from dawn to dusk. It says so on the sign posted outside the park. It was promised to the skateboarding community when it was designed. That way, people who are coming there after school or after work can use the park.
However, according to the parks department, an unwritten rule requires them to close the park at 7:30 everyday. Skaters who have protested have been threatened with calling the police.
We demand that it stay open, from dawn to dusk, as promised!
