Febuary 2010 work began on a swimming pool in a residential area of Hurghada . Concerned residents asked the builders what it was for ? Diving and swimming lessons they were told . The swimming pool 7m x 6m was in fact built to receive Four Taiji Bottlenose Dolphins and was well planned in advance , Before the permit was granted ! We would like CITES and the government to investigate what steps were taken to ensure the recipient was suitably equipped to receive the Specimens . We would like CITES to 'look Behind' the import authorization . Under CITES Law an importation should only be authorised if the facility they are being transported to is 'Fit for Purpose' and this was not the case with the residential swimming pool you allowed these four Taiji Dolphins to be put into when first brought into Egypt , therefore this is a breach of CITES law and as such we ask the Dolphins be confiscated and returned to their place of origin .
We understand that the pool on the building Site complies with regulations but this is irrelevant as the CITES Convention was not upheld .
We are in agreement that if the same situation should occur again in the future , His Excellencey the Minister of Agriculture would have no hesitation in enforcing the law and a confiscation would take place .
