Consumer support of the goals of the 2007 WGA strike

The undersigned, as media consumers, recognize that every film and television program we have enjoyed, past and present, started life as a writer's idea.

We further recognize that the residual system is a deferred payment on the lifetime value of a project, and therefore an essential component of media entry into new markets.

The undersigned feel that for major outlets (represented in the bargaining process by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP)) to minimize creative people's participation in the anticipated financial windfall from "new media" is somewhat less than a fair deal, and we therefore support the major goals of the Writers Guild of America's 2007 actions. Our temporary discomfort as viewers should not get in the way of the WGA's long-term goals.
