The Berkeley Task Force Fighting Hate Crimes is a grass-roots initiative to bring an end to Hate Crimes in Berkeley. In particular, we are working towards establishing a dedicated Berkeley Police Department Hate Crimes unit, and reform of the municipal definitions of Hate Crimes, to allow for more clear distinctions, and more transparency in the decision-making process.

5. Aaron Jacob Schwartz | I was a resident of San Francisco for the majority of last year, and spent a good deal of time in Berkeley. Last year I was attacked on the Berkeley campus during the Jewish holiday celebration of Simchat Torah by a young man making anti-semitic gestures.

4. Michal Landau | We need to learn from the past, not be blind, and take action to keep Berkeley as safe and tolerant as we claim we are. We can learn from Europe what happens if we don't take strong action.
