DC Teachers Want To Vote

When all was said and done, those who oppose voting on the contract had made the decision for all. By the loudness of their voices and pressure placed on you, The Washington Teachers Union president, they determined in September that no one should have the opportunity to vote on the contract. The democratic process was circumvented. Many of those who support voting on the contract quietly left. Not everyone prefers to voice their opinion in a microphone in front of hundreds of people, many of them excited and hostile.
In effect, those who were loud and brazen (taking over the microphone and refusing to give it up until pressured by the audience to do so) cast their votes for us all. I appreciate the opportunity for all to express their views, but the informational sessions should not have taken the place of a real vote.
I want the opportunity for ALL union members to be heard - through a secret ballot vote.
I am a member of The Washington Teachers Union and I want to vote on the contract that is/was being negotiated between The Washington Teachers Union and DC Public Schools. I want to see the proposed contract in its entirety. I have a RIGHT to vote on a contract that affects my employment. I believe those who oppose the contract should be heard also - through a secret ballot vote.
