Defeat "Pay-to-Play"

Defeat the LAUSD Pay-to-Play Ruling !!!

What has happened is that the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has passed a ruling that will require non-profit youth sports organizations to pay an hourly rate for the use of the fields, gyms and other school facilities that have been available to us for many years at no cost.

The effect of this ruling could be devastating. Most of the youth organizations operate on a shoestring, utilizing registration fees to barely cover the already high cost of operation. Equipment, insurance and all the other costs directly applicable to the athlete and his safety and well being are non-negotiable expenses that use up every penny of the fees. This additional, ill conceived, unnecessary expense could put some of us out of business. The result being thousands of young people will lose the opportunity to learn the basics of their chosen sport and lose the opportunity to spend their time in a safe environment rather than running the streets.

Those of us familiar with youth sports know that these organizations are manned by unpaid volunteers. Hundreds upon hundreds of men and women who volunteer their time to teach our young children the basics of several sports and most importantly provide healthy, safe venues for them to spend their after school hours learning and having fun.

I am most familiar with The Valley Youth Conference (VYC) based in the San Fernando Valley and we have been running for over 35 years. Countless numbers of athletes have come through the program and gone on to be positive examples of success, both on the field and in their personal and business life. We support 4 sports, Football, Track, Basketball and Cheer. The High School All-Star game we sponsor often helps a young man showcase his talents and earn a college scholarship. These opportunities could easily disappear if we allow them to implement this ruling.

This unbelievable fee is being levied because of the inefficiency of our local government and they are attempting to recoup a shortfall on the backs of our childrens health and well being.

Each and every boy, man, girl, woman who has or who will experience the positive effects of youth sports should sign this petition.

Dont allow them to implement this ruling!!! The School Board, The Mayor, The Governor all need to be aware of our outrage. We are all either voters or potential voters use that power!!!
