The British Muslim community strongly condemns the hysteria and scaremongering initiated by a small but powerful pro-Zionist lobby supported by a segment of the British media against the visit of the eminent scholar Professor Shaykh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi.
Professor Al-Qaradawi is one of the most revered Islamic authority across the world. Millions of Muslims throughout the world hold him in high esteem due to his balanced, accommodating and inclusive approach.
Professor Al-Qaradawi was among the first scholars to condemn the September 11 attacks. He condemns attacks on civilians such as the Bali and Madrid bombings, and he headed a delegation to Afghanistan in an attempt to prevent Buddhist statues from being destroyed. Professor Al-Qaradwi, the President of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, is on a visit to the UK to convene a meeting of the Council as well participate in conferences to improving community cohesion and encouraging Muslim involvement in society.
We the undersigned strongly support Professor Al-Qaradawis visit to the UK and commend his call for dialogue and understanding. We also back his courageous stance of condemnation of the pro-Zionist lobby for their underhanded and contemptuous ploy to tarnish his reputation in the eyes of the British public and for trying to silence criticism of the illegal and barbaric actions of the Israeli government in occupied Palestine.
