Deus Ex: Multiplayer Community

So when a single-player game, patch's in a modification to play Multi-player, and it also makes availible the Software Developement Kit, it seems apparent the use of the game is how players choose to develope it.





The Single Player experience makes an emphasis on the use of Augmentations. Some could therefore consider the original mode of play for Deus Ex: Multiplayer as full augmentation and skill developement Deathmatch.





Sooner or later a version of DXMP came without AUGS and the removal of availible weapons and skill upgrades. Some would consider this a step back in the gameplay, others who caught on began to experience something different from this.





A game which makes availible the freedom to develope it, dictates that the player who plays it should have complete freedom to play it the way they choose to play it.





What happens when people restrict others to play only one gametype? People who have had choice to play what they want, are now constricted to play how they are told to play. On an internet game, you don't have to take any obuse. People quit if they don't like what they are being forced to play.





A member of the Deus Ex community has done such a thing. Through illegally disabling the use of "0-AUG" servers, via spamming the servers with DDOS IP's and such, the technicality is beyond me, the point is its illegal and its definitely him. His online Alias is DeJaVu.





His demands were that if people wanted to play 0-AUGS, they discontinue to host through the Gamespy masterserver, the only availible and originally coded into the game itself server. People can use other masterservers, however what it limits is that players need to be informed to change the code to accomodate for this.





Some have given in to his demands, but the point is, Dejavu does not make the rules, he does not control the game, and he will certainly not control this community because of his own twisted thoughts. People rebel, and this is the proof.





The result of his attack has spawned a counter-attack, something I saw as not a good solution to the problem. Dejavu has stated that he would prefer to see No Servers availible, instead of both 0-AUG and AUG servers availible, thus killing off the ability to play DXMP and the community which enjoys it.





I'm not asking you to take sides, AUG or Zero-AUG, your thoughts on which mode is better is irrelevant. The whole issue is choice, people choose how they want to play, and if you believe that what is happening is robbing those of their choice to enjoy a game then you should sign here. If you do not condone what has happened with these attacks you should sign here. And lastly, if you really want to make a difference, if you really want to help the community, because the more people who want to play, the more chance we will have to keep this community alive, you really should be signing here.





DXMP is important to me, my view has always been about what a game is supposed to be about, fun. You remove the capability you remove the choice. Don't take the fun out of DX.
