We do not think Waveform festival should be cancelled, as many have paid good money for the ticket, along with other equipment needed for camping, and have booked days off from work in advance which will have been in vain. I do not believe the slight inconvenience of distant loud music can justify dissappointing the thousands of good people who are simply looking forward to a couple of days of fun, and have been for some time. Taking into consideration the fact that Glade Festival has already been cancelled this year, it is a depressing prospect for young people involved in the underground music scene to keep having these low-key events cancelled on the grounds of drug abuse and noise pollution. I cite Reading Festival, which continues to take place year after year; with up to 100,000 people attending there is certain to be a large quantity of drug related activity, plus a far greater liability for trouble, particularly violence and theft, both of which in my experience are not an issue with festivals such as Waveform. Even though this is the case, large mainstream festivals continue to take place without trouble from the authorities, primarily due to financial reasons.
Furthermore, if there was a problem with the location then it should have been sorted out months ago, rather than at the last minute. People talk of the inconsiderate nature of such an event, but surely it is the height of hypocrisy to say this and then attempt to have the festival cancelled only 3 weeks prior to it taking place? Additionally, I resent the suggestion that this festival is antisocial based on other unrelated festivals; all those who attend this festival, I can assure you, are very friendly, considerate people.
