European Campaign for the Support of the Recognition of the State of Palestine

The undersigned citizens of the European Union states, participants in the European Campaign for the Support of the Recognition of the State of Palestine, state to be declared during the session of September 2011 of the General Assembly of the United Nations, an independent and sovereign state within its borders before June 4th, 1967, with the capital city in East Jerusalem, find ourselves united by a sense of responsibility towards international peace, democracy and freedom in the world, and we are also worried by the fact that the Israeli Government which takes unilateral action by the construction of the racist wall on the Palestinian land and the construction of other colonies on the Palestinian territories and the conversion to Judaism of the Holy City of Jerusalem, the city of all religions.
We are also worried by the installation of the military barriers by the Israeli army in the Palestinian territories, having resulted in the division of these territories into enclaves, which has made the lives of the Palestinians in these territories increasingly difficult.
We are worried by the repressive actions taken by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.
Which is why, we ask for support from our governments as regards the Palestinians decision of obtaining the recognition as a full member in the General Assembly of the United Nations, this recognition being a gesture of moral, legal and humanitarian responsibility from the part of our governments towards the Palestinian people.
We do not agree with the unconditional support provided to the Israeli government by the European governments, which encouraged the Israeli government not to take into consideration the decisions of the International Community represented by the resolutions of the United Nations since 1948 and up to the present date.
It is time for the Palestinian people to enjoy freedom, democracy and self-determination by the creation of the independent and sovereign state with the capital city in the East Jerusalem. It is the duty of the European governments to contribute by playing a constructive part in the political settlement of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, based on the resolutions of the Organization of the United Nations, in order to guarantee the peace and stability of the peoples and states in the area, including of the State of Palestine. At the same, our governments ought to manifest a preoccupation for the fair solving of the problem of the Palestinian refugees and the guaranteeing of their right to return to their homes abandoned after 1948, according to the international resolutions.
It is time for our European governments to give a chance to this historical moment.
