1) Provide a more balanced approach to the planning of the Peshtigo River State Forest and Tommy Thompson State Park that takes into account the need for motorized recreation in the park, the forest, and the surrounding areas.
2) Acknowledge and act on the hundreds of pro-motorized recreation comments received by the DNR planners early in the planning process.
3) Take into account the economic impact of motorized recreation on the surrounding region. By not adding any ATV and snowmobile trails in the state park and forest, the DNR plan as proposed has the potential to deny area businesses the thousands of visitors and millions of tourism dollars annually that motorized recreation provides. Please provide a comprehensive motorized recreation plan for the park and forest that augments rather than cripples area recreation, business and tourism.
4) The state park and forest have the potential to be a critical link in existing year around ATV trail systems and provide ATV trail access to many area businesses with very nominal impact on the other uses of the forest or the environment. The use of ATVs is growing exponentially, and we request that the planners take this into account and provide for such a trail system in the planning process and master plan.
Motorized recreation is a significant portion of the recreational, social and economic demographic in the area around the park and forest, and we request that it be reflected in the park and forest plans. We hereby petition the DNR park and forest planners to include year around ATV trails and additional snowmobile trails in and around the state park and forest in the respective master plans.
