Fairness in College Football

The undersigned are fans of college football who respect the integrity of Americas true pastime. The Big 10 Athletic Conference introduced instant replay to their conference football games to ensure greater accuracy in officiating. Their experiment was very successful, and now every major conference employs instant replay. However, the system can only be successful when the officials who monitor the video have the intestinal fortitude to overturn controversial calls. The September 16, 2006, game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Oregon illustrated the futility of the instant replay system when the video evidence is not used correctly. On an onside kick late in the game, officials gave possession to Oregon when the video replay clearly showed that an Oregon player touched the ball before it traveled the necessary ten yards. This call, along with a pass interference penalty, essentially stole victory from the University of Oklahoma. We, the undersigned, request that the outcome of the September 16, 2006, game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Oregon be stricken from all records. We, the undersigned, call upon the National Collegiate Athletic Association to examine the video evidence and severely reprimand the replay officials who administered said game. We, the undersigned, call upon the National Collegiate Athletic Association to reexamine their instant replay system and institute measures to prevent the repetition of similar, atrocious examples of officiating.
