We are demanding the release of Edorus NiShawn Franklin #A305-178.
He was sent to prison at the age of 17 in 1994. His sentence is currently 15 years to life in prison. Since his sentence was handed down in 1994, the laws for sentencing have changed thus causing Mr. Franklin to spend nearly 10\% more time in prison than someone convicted of the same crime today. This is a miscarriage of justice and is unacceptable.
We are asking that his case be reviewed and parole be granted. This is the morally and financially responsible thing to do for the taxpayers of the State of Ohio. The current cost to incarcerate Mr. Franklin (according to the Ohio Dept. Of Corrections) is $69.26 per day which is $25,279.90 per year. So far the State of Ohio has spent $353,918.60 on his incarceration. According to the new guidelines for the parole board (from their website) Mr. Franklin is not going to be considered for parole until after he has served 300 months (25 years). This is going to be a total cost to the taxpayers of $631,997.50 (without the inevitable cost of inflation). It is financially irresponsible for the parole board to continue to deny his release continuing to force taxpayers to pay for the incarceration of someone who is not a threat to society.
By signing this petition we are demanding that his sentence be reviewed and the appropriate actions be taken to facilitate his release.
