Freedom For Christopher Pittman

This petition is on behalf of loyal supporters who wish to exonerate Christopher Frank Pittman.
On November 29, 2001, at the tender age of 12 years old, Christopher was arrested and charged with the murders of his grandparents, Joe & Joy Pittman & for the crime of arson upon their property while under the influence of Paxil & Zoloft. Both being mind altering drugs that are used in the treatment of adult depression but are NOT approved by the FDA for the same use in children.
We believe that Christopher Pittman was under the influence of these drugs, causing him a severe adverse reaction which rendered him involuntarily intoxicated. Therefore, Christopher Pittman was unable to distinguish between legal and/or moral right from wrong when said crimes were committed and should not be held legally responsible.
Furthermore, we feel that Christopher Pittman's legal rights were violated when at 12 yrs old, he was asked & agreed to waive his rights & gave a life altering & damning confession without the presence of counsel, a parent or guardian. Also, Christopher did not receive his right to a speedy trial, instead being made to wait 3 agonizing yrs before he stood in front of a Judge. Christopher has spent the last 3 yrs in the custody of the DJJ in Columbia, SC.
Christopher Pittman was tried in an adult court, and on February 15, 2005 he was found guilty and sentenced to 30 yrs in prison which we find to be cruel and unusual punishment for a crime committed by a child of 12 yrs old. We feel that Christopher Pittman has suffered enough & that he poses no threat to himself or society.
We humbly come before you this day, to respectfully beg from you the following:
1-For mercy upon Christopher Pittman
2-For a full pardon from the State of South Carolina
3-For the immediate release of Christopher Pittman
In closing, we thank you for your time, as we know you are a busy man. We would appreciate your prompt consideration & attention to this important matter and look forward to your thoughtful and timely response.
