We, the undersigned residents of Teaneck, NJ and loyal patrons of your store or service organization, do respectfully request that you provide Fair Trade items and that those items be labeled accordingly and presented for easy finding.
What is Fair Trade Teaneck?
Teaneck was recently named the 21st Fair Trade Town in the United States. That means that more than 16 establishments have already committed to providing at least two certified Fair Trade items - coffee, tea, chocolate, flowers, and gifts.
Quality Products. Improving Lives. Protecting the Planet.
Fair Trade goods are just that. Fair. From far-away farms in the developing world to your shopping cart or function, products that bear the Fair Trade logo come from farmers and workers who are justly compensated. Fair Trade helps farmers in developing countries build sustainable businesses that positively influence their communities and teach disadvantaged communities how to use the market to their advantage. With Fair Trade USA, the money you spend on day-to-day goods can improve an entire community's day-to-day lives.
History
Fair Trade began modestly in the 1940s when a few small North American and European organizations reached out to poverty stricken communities to help them sell their handicrafts to well-off markets. Today, Fair Trade is a global enterprise.
We hope that you will respond to the outpouring of Teaneck citizens' concerns by providing certified Fair Trade products. Teaneck's Fair Trade Steering Committee is ready to help you order a trial supply - you can contact the committee by going to our website at www.fairtradeteaneck.org. We are sure you will find Fair Trade products competitively priced and of the highest quality. We look forward to welcoming you to Teaneck's growing community of socially committed stores and organizations.
