An Open Letter to Congress:
Recent events have brought to light a grave injustice that is being perpetrated against the American people. The judicial systems inability to properly handle child sexual offenders has been highlighted over and over again as we Americans tune into the evening news. Now we, the Undersigned, are asking Congress to address this issue.
In our system of government it is always preferable for the individual states to govern themselves. Yet, with statistics such as the one showing that Arizona has lost track of over 1000 sexual predators it is very difficult to pretend that the states can manage this problem on their own.
Sex offenders often cross state lines to commit their crimes and, as such, we feel that any predatory sexual crime on a child should be a federal crime. The Undersigned feel that the Congress can no longer rely solely on Megans Law and that they must pass legislation similar to the Jessica Lunsford Law in Florida. Specifically, we call on Congress to create a National mandatory 25-year prison term for convicted child sex offenders along with a provision that upon release said offenders must be fitted with a tracking device for life.
Our children deserve to grow up free from the fear that they will fall prey to the sexual predator next door. We the Undersigned have done our part by signing this petition, now we ask that Congress follows suit.
