TO THE HONORABLE THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF NOVA SCOTIA,
ASSEMBLED:
THE PETITION OF THE UNDERSIGNED ATV-OHV Dealer OF THE PROVINCE OF NS,
HUMBLY SHEWETH THAT
OHV-ATV legislation in Nova Scotia is having a devastating impact on a way of life for families in Nova Scotia. Jobs are being lost. Family businesses are closing. Because sales have decreased in some areas 50\%, ATV dealers are being forced to lay off employees who now have to look for work outside the Province. Tourism opportunities are slipping away. We the undersigned ask:
That k-trails and forest roads stay open. Change the Motor Vehicle Act to allow the practice to continue and to open thousands of kilometers of trails throughout the Province.
Government remove barriers to ATVing and economic growth by removing licensing impediments permit temporary highways crossings until tunnels are created, permit access to gas stations and develop support for closed courses.
Improve communications, particularly by clarifying where OHVers can and can't ride.
Adult riders should not be required to take training: rather, training should be incentive based since the infrastructure has not yet been developed to be able to
deliver on this objective.
. Ensure enforcement officers provide consistency in enforcement focused on educating the public as to changing rules and enforcement.
Be flexible in developing guidelines around approved closed course riding areas, since none currently exist, those under 14 years of age have nowhere to ride.
Provide assurance to property owners that they will not be open to lawsuits if they give OHVers written permission to ride on their property.
To work with industry, dealers, riding federations and the public on environmental issues involving OHVing before implementation.
WHEREOF YOUR PETITIONER HUMBLY PRAYS THAT YOUR
HONORABLE HOUSE MAY BE PLEASED TO ACCEPT THIS PETITION,
AND AS IN DUTY BOUND YOUR PETITIONER WILL EVER PRAY.
