Help Our Homeless Veterans

First and foremost I would like to state that I am NOT saying that I think that the United States


should stop assisting other countries. I believe that as a powerful nation it is our duty to


assist those less fortunate than us.





The point of this petition is to bring awareness of and try to change the deprivation of assistance


for our veterans. Statistics state that one third of our nation's homeless are veterans.


The U.S. alone spends millions of dollars every year to provide food, housing and medical attention


to citizens of other countries. I believe that we should divert a percentage say 25\% of the funds


that the U.S. spends on other countries' homeless and devote it to OUR veterans. Think of it 25\%


of one million dollars is $250,000 that is more than the average american makes in 5 to 10 years.


These are our veterans we're talking about men and women who have put their life on the line for our country,


for our freedoms, for our way of life! Why should they now after faithfully serving


our country protecting this great nation not recieve assistance


from that very government that they set forth to protect? Why should they live on the streets suffering?


Many of you will respond with "well we are helping children in other countries more than adults."


Well what is to say that some of these veterans don't have children or families who are homeless with them


or children who are depressed and saddend every day knowing that mommy or daddy does not have a home,


does not have food or clothing. Or consider the children who are on the streets with their veteran parents


who have no opportunity to go to school, no opportunity to better themselves, no opportunity to live


a fulfilling life? Please America do not take this lightly these aren't just some nameless Joe Shmoe


that you've never heard of these are people that've fought for us, for you to live a better life


why should we now deny them the right to theirs?? I say that we as tax payers should have the right


to say where some of our hard earned money goes and I say that we should give less of it to other


countries and worry about our OWN!!!
