In 2003 the F.A.W.C (Farm Animal Welfare Council)issued a report into Religious Slaughter - Halal Meat. Their final recommendations were that "slaughter withour pre-stunning is unaccepatable and that the (UK) government should repeal the current excemption" - The excemption being that an animal can have its throat slit prior to being stunned - this is currently being carried out by some within the Muslim and Jewish faiths. It is of course recognised that religious beliefs and practices should be respected - but this is a matter of ANIMAL CRUELTY within the shores of a nation that in the mane has a strong tradition of good animal welfare. Please sign this petition if you believe that the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - Rt. Hon.
