We the residents of Huntersville, petition the board of commissioners to vote YES for the Stumptown Road Extension. Following are the reasons it should be supported:

Faster and Easier access for emergency vehicles (fire, police and EMS) to majority of NorthStone homes. Reduces travel distance by 1 mile and Kane Alexander is 25 feet wide whereas Aberfeld is 34.5 feet wide easier and safer for emergency vehicles to navigate.

Safety of 182 homes that currently have driveway, front yard access or cul-de-sac access onto Kane Alexander and Brambourgh. The Extension backs up to 12 homes in NorthStone and 7 in Shelton Ridge with no driveway access to the extension. At least one child has already been hit, lets keep others from being hurt or killed.

Reduces traffic congestion. The Extension creates another access for NorthStone reducing the traffic flowing from one point the Brambourgh entrance. This will be a proactive step towards reducing future traffic congestion and improving traffic flow once proposed roads are routed onto Ramah Church Road and the proposed school is built on Fred Brown Road.

Connectivity and the Huntersville Plan. The Huntersville Town Planning Policy specifically addresses the issue of connectivity. The Stumptown Road Extension is a wonderful opportunity for the Town to rectify this issue with two existing subdivisions NorthStone and Shelton Ridge as well as the to-be-built Bowman subdivision and to build this road at a fraction of the cost to the tax payers of Huntersville. The Policy specifically states: Streets are the fundamental building blocks of the community and will be inviting public places that respect the pedestrian and accommodate the automobile. Streets in Huntersville are required to connect to one another. Doing so assists in the dispersion of traffic and fosters pedestrianism. Connected streets provide numerous avenues for emergency access. Through streets do not have to be dangerous high-speed racewaystraffic calming measures can be implemented to achieve the same design speeds found along cul-de-sacs. There is no evidence to support the assertion that connecting streets increases crime and lowers property values. Careful and conscientious design is the key.
