SUPREME COURT OF INDIA, NEW DELHI.
Dear Hon'ble Chief justice of India
We would like to bring to your kind notice that a matter of substantial public interest contained in a petition filed before the Honourable Supreme court relating to giving statutory recognition to the voter to reject confidence in all candidates put up by parties and individuals is pending before the Hon. Court for more than four years.
Our understanding is that the Election Commission of India has supported the proposal of giving such an option to the voter by suggesting that the Electronic Voting Machine should include in the machine after listing names of all officially recognised candidates, a seperate "None of the Above" be listed.
The Election Commission requesting such a change in the ballot proforma under the Rules is pending with the Union Government for more than five years.
Such a provision will enable the voters to express their dissatisfaction with the candidates of doubtful integrity or with criminal background, which will eventually encourage better candidates being nominated by political parties.
Our request is to take up this case for hearing immediately as the decision of court is likely to improve the quality of our representatives in Legislatures especially in the context of impending General Elections in Apr-May 2009.
Regards
